Congratulations Gareth

Hampton Conservatories Ltd would like to congratulate their Paint-shop Supervisor, Gareth McKellar, on achieving his Level 3 Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety, as certified by the globally recognised NEBOSH.  Gareth, who celebrates his 20th year in the company next year, has also represented Hampton’s in achieving Level 2 of the Green Dragon Environmental Standard, which is concerned with making a commitment to environmental management.
NEBOSH’s Certificate-level qualifications give a good foundation in health and safety for managers, supervisors and staff with health and safety among their day to day responsibilities.
To obtain the NEBOSH qualification Gareth undertook an intensive 4 month part-time training course at Sandy Arthur Training Services in Limavady, and is now qualified to oversee the supervision of health and safety within Hampton Conservatories Ltd.
Gareth had also undertaken a short course to achieve the Green Dragon Environmental Standard.  The Green Dragon is a stepped approach to implementing environmental management developed jointly between ARENA Network Wales—the counterpart of ARENA Network Northern Ireland, and Groundwork Wales as part of a European funded project.
Through a partnership between ARENA Network and Coleraine Borough Council, a pilot project was undertaken to introduce the Green Dragon environmental management standard to a group of 27 businesses in the Coleraine area, including Hampton Conservatories Ltd.
As a result of this course Gareth has been able to conduct an environmental review within the company and implement an improvement plan which is closely adhered to by all employees in order to maintain this environmental standard. Measures that have now been put in place and followed by all staff include re-cycling of cardboard, paper, paint tins and waste aluminium, disposing of waste wood using a wood burner, which also acts as a heat source in the winter, and ensuring that the timber used in manufacturing is derived from a sustainable managed source.
“Health and safety and good environmental management practice are fundamental to Hampton Conservatories Ltd” states Managing Director, Mervyn Montgomery, “We are delighted with Gareth’s contribution to, and success in, both of these crucial areas.”
