Mellon Home
Wednesday, January 23, 2008
Located deep in the countryside of County Wexford, the Mellons’ Georgian home was built around 1760, and is characterised by a symetrical design and large sash windows. ‘Although it may seem rather grand from the outside, inside it has only four bedrooms,’ says John. ‘ But it has a relaxed atmosphere and that’s why we love it. It has a great sense of age and history, but it is still family home.’
The only major building work carried out was the addition of a conservatory that has wonderful views of the garden. Walls painted in off white and a light tone marble floor contribute to the sunny atmosphere of the room, while the patterned chenille upholstery on the furniture gives an indication of Patricia’s love of rich, dramatic colour. ‘I just adore colour,’ she enthuses.
With a dedication to detail and an eye for creating an individual look, the Mellon home is sure to have many more interesting chapters to follow.
