Choosing an orangery for your Welsh property

Home to some of the most beautiful regions in the entire UK, such as Eryri (Snowdonia), The Pembrokeshire Coast and Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons), as well as many lesser-known areas of natural beauty, it only stands to reason that if you own a home in Wales, you’d want to enjoy the views. Equally, if you’re in a more built-up or urban area, having more space and light is something for which many homeowners strive. An orangery (or conservatory) is ideal in either scenario.

An orangery is a halfway house between the in and outdoors. Advancements in technologies mean the space is warm in winter and shaded in summer, meaning it is a room for all seasons and, at Hampton, we can even add rain sensors to ensure your room is protected from any incumbent weather conditions, even if you’re not at home.

Welsh orangeries: design considerations

Welsh architecture is known for its use of local materials, such as slate, granite, sandstone, and limestone. It’s therefore important that any new glazed extension is sympathetic to the existing property (also known as the ‘host’ property). This isn’t just a personal preference but it may be a prerequisite of getting planning permission. Whether you’re based in Cardiff, St Davids, rural Powys or Monmouthshire, it may be crucial to ensure your design pays more than just a nod to its setting.

The process of designing an orangery with Hampton

Once you’re committed to the idea of a bespoke Hampton orangery, we will visit your property and guide you through the options available depending on the style and age of your home, your unique requirements, and any orientation/aspect considerations.

At the next stage, we provide you with a full presentation and detailed quote and you then have the opportunity to make adjustments based on personal preference or the intended use of the new orangery. Further drawings are made at this stage until you are fully satisfied with the proposed new structure.
